In XP, within the power settings, when I set the options to "do nothing" when the lid on my Inspiron 8600 is closed, the display would turn off but the computer itself would still be running. With Vista, doing the same thing, does not turn off the display, further more when the lid is closed other power settings don't apply either. For instance, I set the time at which the display turns off at 20 minutes, it does not turn off the display if the lid is down.
Is this just a glitch, or do I have to do something else to achieve the functionality I want?

laptop display turn off on closing of the lid
I'm having the EXACT same problem. I would like to close my lid on my laptop and have the display turn off but keep the computer running. It worked flawlessly under XP and doesn't with Vista. This is a MAJOR issue with me.
